Quick update!

I’m actually sort of lazy when it comes to updating lolol.
But I figured I’d give a short update of the progress, because there’s been progress!

Two fabrics for each piece of clothing?!

I’m done with the skirt, pretty much! I just need to fasten the ribbon (which is actually bias tape) properly, because the quick fix doesn’t hold very good.
Very straight forward done, unless you’re me and decide to do things the hard way. If you’re looking for a decent tutorial, I can recommend this one. I didn’t really follow it much, because I wanted shortcuts but they weren’t really, but this one’s pretty good still.
The skirt is simple cotton canvas with a layer of vliselin to make it sturdier, since the cotton itself is pretty flimsy. I actually wanted a sturdier fabric from the beginning, but it was surprisingly hard to find, even in such a common color as grey (imagine my trouble with finding decent orange then >_

In fact, I ended up buying most of my fabrics in Paris! That was an adventure of its own, with limited French on my part, and English on their part, but it worked out somehow!

Right now I’m working on the top. And it’s a pain, because I’ve somehow messed up the measurements royally, so it’s waaay too large at the top, while on the bottom it’s not really enough to close it hahaha. But I have a solution for it, now I just need to get my unmotivated butt in gear again (I worked on it pretty much all of yesterday trying to fix it, but nooo)

I bought some lace shorts to wear as well, because the skirt is pretty short haha. I had planned on making shorts myself, but I 1) forgot about that part when buying fabrics, so I don’t have enough grey and 2) I can’t be assed. Besides, the lace shorts are much cuter. I just need to figure out a way to get some pockets or something..

Shoes.. I’ve got none. I’m hoping I can buy a pair in SEOUL (weeee going to Seoul!@#), as well as some blue circle lenses!
I’m still trying to figure out all the buttons. I’m intending to make some, mainly because I want buttons that glows. Oooh~~. for the sock buttons I’ll probably just buy some simple ones.
I mentioned in an entry or two back that I’d hope to get another wig to make one pretty full one, but I won’t be doing that, both because of lack of money and time.

I think that’s about it?
I’m gonna update with “detail points” in the next entry, where I’ll hopefully will be done with most of this!

After much waffling back and forth, it’s been decided that I won’t go to Soracon, so that means that the cosplay will be sort of “on hold”. Main reasons is the sudden lack of time (I have to go to Oslo to buy fabric, since the “local” store half an hour away doesn’t have that much to choose from, and I can’t really go to Oslo just for some materials right now), and the fact that Soracon is the day after I come back from my trip to Paris, so it’s just a hassle, really.

The next opportunity is Desucon in June! Even though that’s also right after a trip (Seoul, yay!!), it’s at least a couple of days after returning, so it still gives me a little time to get back to adjust again, sort of.
I also have some plans for a second cosplay, since Desucon is a two day con.

I will try to not slack, even though Desucon is far away. So was Soracon too, right, when I figured I could go there?!
One of the next times I go to Oslo I’ll buy materials. At some point I’ll also buy another one of the wig I bought, and use the weaves from one and sew onto the other, just to get it a bit fuller. Damn vocaloids and their tons of hair.

So that’s how it is now.

I got the wig! It’s pretty decent, especially for the price. It was the right length as well haha. I wish it was fuller, but I didn’t expect it either.

As for the speaker thing.. I kinda ran into problems :’D
I couldn’t get the screws out and ended ruining most of them.. So I’m not sure what to do.

I’m also having doubts about going to Soracon, but I need to figure it out soon, because I have to order things online, but I don’t wanna do it if I’m not going anyway, since then I can spend the money on other things.

One of these days I might start to draft the patterns for the clothes though. That doesn’t cost anything!

Progress!

I still haven’t decided if I’m going to Soracon, but I took the jump, and now the cosplay has started making progress!

I bought a wig the other day! It’s a straight one, so I’ll have to style it, but then I can get it exactly like I want.
I decided on the length of 120cm (or it should be >_> It didn’t actually say, but I found a similar listing where it had that length, so I’m crossing my fingers it’s the same). Not toooo long, but still long. And with curls/waves it’ll be even shorter, so it should be fine.

Too bad it’s Christmas times, mail will take even longer e_e

Something else, as well!
I was gonna buy a new one, but I have an old mp3 player speaker thing I never use, so might as well use that one (for the ears)!
So hopefully, one of the next few days (maybe already tonight) I’ll try to disassemble it and stuff and try if I can get it to work somehow. Preferably more effectively too since I believe it uses like 4 AA batteries or something. And that’s not very cosplay friendly when it goes on your head.

Stuff

Long time, no see!
Despite that, I’ve suddenly gained a lot of hits recently, haha. But that’s cool (but I’m sorry if you didn’t find what you were looking for!)

Either way. I’ve.. mostly forgotten about the whole project, although there’s been a few moments with OMG COSPLAY MUST PLOT. (I’m forever stuck on if I should go for the right length on a wig, or a more convenient length. Halp?)
On Sunday the date for Soracon was announced. Aaand it kinda sorta crashes with a trip to Paris I’m going to. Soracon will be on February 11th. I get home on the 10th. It works, but it’s still a pain.
I’m currently considering if I will be going. I want to, but it’s a lot of back and forth and with a four day trip to Paris, home will sound pretty nice! Then there’s also money, and I don’t feel like going back and forth like that. But I don’t wanna run around with a cosplay in my bag when going to Paris?!

So yeah, I’m.. not quite sure what to do? I wanna go, and it’d be fun to cosplay, but it seems pretty inconvenient.
We’ll see!

I should probably get started pretty soon if I am to go.

Updates?

Sooo I actually might have gotten myself a deadline for the SeeU cosplay. Some time between winter and Desucon (so specific!) there’s the mini version of Desucon, Soracon! There’s no date for it yet, really, but yeah.
Here I will be joining forces with Sakuya, who I mentioned in the previous entry will be cosplaying Ring Suzune.

Given a deadline, I’ve sort of started to figure out what I need to get first, what’s more important etc.
Honestly, it’s all pretty important imo XD Although blue lenses are pretty low on the list.

I’m also on my way into a job it seems, so maybe I’ll be able to start buying stuff and finally get this cosplay going~

Ramblings

Hi ho!
Not much of a progress on my SeeU cosplay, really, and honestly I’m sure it’ll be a while. I don’t foresee any sudden large amounts of money any time soon! Only thing I can do is research and such (maybe even go so far as to draft patterns if I’m really bored :O)
I’ve mainly been thinking about how to do the hair, and I’ve been thinking of getting a wig, of course, and possibly some clip in extensions, but it might not make much of a difference (length wise anyway, but maybe a good way to get it fuller), and matching it might be a problem if I have to get them from different places.

In the mean time, SeeU’s voicebank is announced to be released on the 21st, so SBS Artec has released two songs so far by her, RUN and by far my favorite of the two, Never Let You Go:

which apparently is a cover of sorts by the kpop band 2AM.

It’s also started to pop up cosplays as well (there even was one at Coscon :O), with a broad variety in execution, so I’m looking forward to see even more (so I can see how people has solved things (8 )
I’ve already gotten a few ideas, but might eventually scrap them. Also some from the videos, although they seems to be mostly fan art, but maybe I can take some artistic freedom when it comes to some details, if they’re not official anyway.
Just because it’d look cool!

Speaking of Coscon, my friend Sakuya (she’s planning a Ring Suzune cosplay, also a vocaloid!) from Engetsu Cosplay (I need a fancy name like that, haha), and some friends of hers cosplayed as makkuro kurosuke/soot sprites from for example My Neighbor Totoro and other Ghibli films! I think it was a pretty cool idea, and they seemed to be pretty popular. They also won the skit contest, congrats! :D

So far?

Project: SeeU

I’ve looked around, just to get an overview, and I’ve found a bunch of shoes that might suit! I just question the color haha.

I’ve also done some research for the shoe plates and how to solve that particular problem, and so far my best bet is to use lcd or oled displays, kinda like cell phones and mp3-players used to have before things got all fancy with colors and touchscreens and crap.
I’m just stumped about what exactly I’d need for it to work and to program it. Or even if it’d be possible to use it for this.
Maybe dad knows :’D

For the earphones, I’ve had an idea for it since.. well, basically since I started thinking of the cosplay thing. Just gonna get some cheap speakers, mp3-player external kind, and just take apart and build ears.
Player part I’ve waggled back and forth on, and I just might lazy out on it and just hide an old player I have in the collar or something (rendering the button in front nonfunctional like sorta planned)

Further more I’ve just been thinking what fabrics to use. Not really sure yet, durr. Just have to go on a rampage at a fabric store and see what I find!

An introduction of sorts

Earlier this summer I was majorly bitten by the cosplay bug. It’s happened before, like when I wanted to cosplay Karen Stadtfeld when Code Geass was all the rage, but it was never this serious.
I halfassedly tried to gather people for a SNSD cosplay for Coscon, but I pretty much dropped the idea because of lack of people and funds.
Fast forward to about last week, where I discovered SeeU, a vocaloid who sings in Korean and Japanese. She’s expected to be released in October, apparently, so there’s not much info or pictures (pretty much fanart) yet, but enough to start plotting a cosplay!
Still won’t be a cosplay for Coscon, because of the time and lack of money, so this will be a long term project with an undecided deadline (perfect for someone like me who procrastinates a lot :D )

In this blog I’ll sort of.. have a project registration post — like this one, then I’ll post progress as I go, and when it’s done, a completion post summarizing stuff!

So off we go!

Project deadline: None as of now
Materials needed: Oi. Uh.. fabric? :D Speakers. Other electrical stuff? Paint, whatever is needed for buttons and stuff.
What needs to be bought?: Shoes, wig, socks
Pattern(s) used: Gonna draft them myselffff.
Challenges or obstacles: The technical/electrical stuff. Also, hair/wig. Damn these vocaloids and all their long fluffy hair.
Details: Cat ears are speakers and neckband thing is a player, gonna try to make these fully functional, somehow e_e Plates on shoes shows sound waves? Will probably be the hardest to replicate, unless I like.. draw it on..
